Product Description
This is a red semi Gaji silk saree with an Ajrakh print border and pallu, finished with small mirrors scattered across the body and set into the pallu motifs. It is made for the woman who wants a festive red saree for Karva Chauth, Diwali, a puja or a family function — with a print story that is a little different from the usual zari border.
What this saree is
- Fabric: semi Gaji silk — a silk blend, not pure silk. It has a smooth surface and a soft sheen.
- Print: Ajrakh print — the geometric and floral style from Kutch and Sindh, here in red with grey, black and cream.
- Work: mirror work across the body and within the pallu and border motifs.
- Pallu: rows of paisley (kairi) motifs, a central band of star-and-jaal Ajrakh pattern, and a medallion border, finished with tassels.
- Colour: red body with grey, black and cream print.
- Blouse: unstitched fabric only.
Which occasions it suits
Red is the traditional colour for Karva Chauth and suits Diwali, pujas, temple visits, griha pravesh and family functions. The mirror work catches light well indoors and in evening photographs. For a wedding where you are a guest, many families keep red for the bride — a deeper jewel tone may suit better there.
How to style it
A black blouse picks up the black in the Ajrakh print and keeps the look clean. Grey, bottle green or mustard also work as contrast. Oxidised silver jewellery sits naturally with the mirror work and the grey tones in the print; keep it to one statement piece, because the pallu already carries a lot of pattern. Avoid a patterned blouse — let the saree be the statement.
Care
Dry clean recommended. Mirror work and silk blends do not take well to machine washing or wringing. Never spray perfume directly on the saree, store it folded in a cotton or muslin cloth rather than plastic, and steam out creases rather than ironing over the mirrors.
Frequently asked questions
Is this saree pure Gaji silk?
No. This is semi Gaji silk, a silk blend. It has the smooth surface and soft sheen of Gaji, but it is not pure silk, and we do not describe it as pure.
What is Ajrakh print?
Ajrakh is a print tradition from Kutch in Gujarat and Sindh, known for geometric stars, jaal patterns and paisleys, usually in red, indigo, black and white. This saree carries Ajrakh-style patterns in red, grey, black and cream on a semi Gaji silk base.
Is the mirror work real mirrors?
Yes, the saree has mirror work — small round mirrors across the body and set into the pallu and border motifs. Handle it gently and avoid ironing directly over them.
Is the blouse piece included?
Yes. This saree comes with a running blouse piece of about 0.8 metres in the matching Ajrakh print. It is unstitched fabric, ready for your tailor.
What is the length of this saree?
The saree is 6.3 metres long across the body, border and pallu, with a separate running blouse piece of about 0.8 metres.
Can I wear this red saree for Karva Chauth?
Yes. Red is the traditional Karva Chauth colour, and the mirror work photographs well in the evening when the moon rituals take place. It also suits Diwali and pujas.
Which blouse colour goes with this red Ajrakh saree?
Black is the safest choice because it matches the black in the print. Grey, bottle green and mustard all work as contrast. Avoid a patterned blouse — the pallu already carries plenty of pattern.
What jewellery suits a mirror work saree?
Oxidised silver sits naturally with the mirror work and the grey in the Ajrakh print. Antique gold also works. Choose one statement piece — earrings or a necklace, not both.
How do I wash this saree?
Dry clean is recommended. Do not machine wash or wring it — the silk blend and the mirror work are both easily damaged. Store it folded in cotton or muslin cloth, never in a plastic bag.
