Product Description

This is a rani pink Ajrakh-style print saree in semi gaji silk, worked over with real mirrors. The print carries elephant boota in black and white across the body, opening at the pallu into rows of peacock motifs, a marching line of elephants, and dense floral medallions, with mirrors set into the pattern throughout.

What you are buying

  • Fabric: semi gaji silk — a silk blend with a smooth, fluid surface
  • Colour: rani pink with a black and ivory print
  • Work: real mirror work set into the print, across the body and pallu
  • Print motifs: elephant boota, peacock and floral medallions
  • Length: 6.5 metres
  • Finish: tasselled pallu end

About the print

This saree draws on Ajrakh's block-print tradition from Kutch in Gujarat, but it is not the classical, strictly geometric Ajrakh — the elephant and peacock figures here are a contemporary addition to that visual language, printed in the same bold, high-contrast palette Ajrakh is known for.

Rani pink is the brighter, more festive end of this print — it reads as an occasion colour in a way the red and black versions do not quite manage. The mirrors are real, not printed circles or foil, and they are placed into the pattern rather than scattered at random. Against this saturated pink they read as bright points of light rather than sinking into the ground the way they can on a darker colourway.

Which occasions this saree suits

  • Weddings, as a guest, and sangeet: rani pink is one of the most reliable bridal-guest colours, and mirror work sits at the celebratory end of a wedding rather than the ceremonial one
  • Mehendi: bright, warm colours are the traditional choice, and this saree is built for a long day of sitting and dancing
  • Navratri and garba: pink is part of the Navratri palette on several published lists, and gaji silk is fluid and light enough to dance in
  • Festive gatherings and gifting: a distinctive print that reads as more considered than a plain silk at a similar price

This is a livelier, more folk-rooted saree than our Banarasi silks. For a formal reception, our katan and tissue sarees carry more weight.

How to style a rani pink Ajrakh elephant print saree

Blouse

Black, as photographed, is the cleanest choice — it grounds the pink and lets the print and mirrors carry the look. Deep teal and bottle green are the strongest true contrasts and are worth considering if you want something bolder. Antique gold picks up the mirror work's warmth.

Avoid orange and red close to this pink — two warm, saturated tones this near each other read muddy rather than contrasting. Keep the blouse plain: a print this detailed with mirror work already carries pattern and sparkle, and a busy blouse competes with both.

Jewellery

Oxidised silver first. Mirror work and block print belong to the same folk design tradition, and oxidised silver reads as deliberate against them in a way polished gold does not. Chunky silver jhumkas, a broad silver choker, a hasli, or beaded and terracotta pieces all work, and silver is especially striking against a bright pink like this one.

Antique gold or temple gold is the warmer alternative if the occasion calls for it. Skip polished yellow gold and anything heavily stoned; the mirrors are already carrying the sparkle. One statement piece is enough.

Footwear and finish

Juttis, kolhapuris or block heels rather than stilettos. A potli bag, mirror-worked or embroidered if you have one. Hair in a loose bun or a braid.

Colour note

Rani pink is a high-saturation colour and it is one of the most photographed shades in the range. It reads especially richly on wheatish and deep complexions, and the black-and-ivory print gives it enough contrast to hold definition on fairer skin too.

Size and drape

The saree is 5.5 metres long. It is free size — the drape adjusts for heights of roughly 5'0" to 5'10". If you are on the shorter side, tuck the plain end slightly inward before you begin.

Gaji silk is fluid rather than stiff, so it pleats easily and falls softly.

How to care for this saree

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild liquid detergent
  • Do not machine wash or wring
  • Lay flat to dry in shade, never in direct sunlight — bright pink shows sun fading sooner than a darker colour
  • Handle the mirrors gently — do not scrub or iron directly over them
  • Store folded in a muslin or cotton cloth, not a plastic bag
