Dual tone Blush Pink and Black Soft Katan Silk Saree

This is a two-tone soft katan silk saree — one half blush pink, the other navy blue, with a broad woven gold zari border running the length of both. Gold zari buttas are scattered across the navy, and the pallu ends in gold zari stripes with tassels. It is the boldest construction in our katan range: not a contrast border on a single colour, but two colours meeting across the drape.

About the fabric

Katan is a tighter, denser weave than our soft silk, which gives it more body and a crisper fall. Ours is a semi-katan — a semi-silk blend, not pure katan and not pure mulberry silk. We do not sell it as either.

The silk is sourced from Varanasi, where the founder selects fabric directly from weaver families each season. The zari is woven into the fabric on the loom rather than printed, glued or applied afterwards. On a saree where the border is this wide, that difference is visible up close — the brocade has depth and catches light unevenly, where an applied finish would sit flat.

How a two-tone saree drapes

Worth knowing before you buy: on a two-tone saree, where the colour changes depends on how you pleat it. Drape it the way it is photographed and the navy sits low with blush across the shoulder. Take more fabric into the pleats and the navy rises. Take less and more pink shows at the front.

This is not a flaw and it is not something to correct — it means the saree can be worn two or three visibly different ways. But it does mean your drape will not look identical to ours, and we would rather say that here than have it surprise you.

Which occasions this saree suits

• Weddings, as a guest: navy and blush are both safe guest colours, and the gold border gives it enough weight for a main function
• Reception, sangeet and engagement: the wide brocade border photographs well under indoor and artificial light
• Diwali and festive evenings: katan holds its shape through a long evening better than a lighter silk
• Family functions and daytime celebrations: the blush keeps it from reading too heavy for daytime
• Gifting: the two-tone construction makes it feel less ordinary than a single-colour saree at the same price

How to style a blush and navy katan silk saree

Blouse

Pick one of the two colours rather than introducing a third — a two-tone saree with a wide gold border already has enough happening. Blush pink, as photographed, keeps it soft and lifts the face. Navy makes it sharper and more formal. Antique gold works with both. Deep wine is the one contrast we would add to that list. Avoid a printed or heavily patterned blouse.

Jewellery

Gold, antique gold or kundan sit naturally with the woven zari. Pearl is the better choice if you have gone with the blush blouse — it stays in the same soft register. One statement piece, not two.

Footwear and finish

Two to three inch heels or wedges. A potli or clutch. Hair tied or in a bun so the border stays visible across the shoulder.

Colour note

Blush and navy is an unusually wearable pairing — the navy gives depth and definition, the blush brings warmth up near the face. It reads well across the full range of complexions, which is not true of every colour we carry.

Size, length and drape

The saree is 6.3 metres long. It is free size — the drape adjusts for heights of roughly 5'0" to 5'10". If you are on the shorter side, tuck the plain end slightly inward before you begin.

Katan is denser than our soft silk, so it holds a pleat crisply and keeps its shape through the evening. It does need a little more pinning at the shoulder than a lighter fabric — around 5 to 7 pleats at the front, pallu over the left shoulder and pinned.

How to care for this saree

• Dry clean is recommended for few wash, katan — the density of the weave and the width of the zari border make it the safer route throughout the saree's life, not only for the first wear
• Store folded in muslin or cotton cloth with a silica gel sachet, not in a plastic bag
• Refold along different lines every few months so permanent crease marks do not set in
