About the fabric

Katan is a tighter, denser weave than our soft silk, which gives it more body and a crisper fall. Ours is a semi-katan — a semi-silk blend. We do not sell it as pure katan, and the difference is the reason a saree with an all-over jaal costs ₹1,999 here rather than several times that.

The zari is woven into the fabric on the loom, not printed or applied afterwards. On a jaal that difference is visible up close — the pattern has depth and catches light unevenly.

Which occasions this suits

Receptions, sangeet, Diwali and evening party wear. Black is the most versatile colour in the range and goes with any blouse and any jewellery you already own.

Black is traditionally avoided at many pujas. If you are buying for a temple visit, our red or mustard sarees are the safer choice.

Styling

Gold and antique gold stand out most clearly against black. Deep red, bottle green, rani pink and ivory all work as a blouse. Avoid black on black, which flattens in photographs.

Care

Dry clean is strongly recommended for katan, throughout the saree life rather than only for the first wears. Never machine wash. Never hang wet silk. Iron on low with a cotton cloth between, never on the zari.
